Every April, the Dai people celebrate their New Year, the Water-Splashing Festival. It is said that the festival started in India(印度). And people in Thailand also celebrate it now. This year, I went to Yunnan and celebrated the festival.
Before the festival, I saw people clean the street, put up colourful flags and cut their hair. During the festival, I saw many fun activities. People dressed in beautiful traditional clothes. Elders blessed people by splashing water. Young people splashed water on each other for good luck. I also joined them. I got wet, but I was happy. After that, I watched dragon boat races by the river. At noon, families and friends got together for a big lunch. They shared sticky rice, fish and fresh fruit. At night, I saw people dance in a circle and sing traditional songs. Then people flew sky lanterns with wishes.
“I came alone, but I danced with ten new friends,” Miss Lin, a tourist(游客) said. “I have never seen so many happy faces. This festival really brings people close.” I felt the same. I will never forget the happy days!
