On Jan 28, people saw Vincent van Gogh’s *Sunflowers* painting made into LEGO at the Dutch Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The LEGO Sunflowers set has 2,615 pieces. It’s much smaller than the painting, but still takes many hours to build. The set uses three bright yellows. This shows Van Gogh’s famous use of colour. The museum believes the set could help fans feel closer to Van Gogh’s art and learn more about his great work.

On Sept 15, Thailand had its yearly bird singing contest. It brought in over 1,600 birds and each of them sang from a cage (笼子) hung 3 metres high. Judges (裁判) chose winners by listening to how many songs a bird sang, how clear and strong the songs were, and how long it kept singing. Owners cheered for their birds, and the bird that sang the most songs won its owner a cash prize.
Creating a “Rainbow” with Flowers
Workers in Alsace, France, are painting the flowers with a special dye (染料) to make them colourful. The dye is mainly made of water, colour powder and a little resin. The “rainbow” has 10 colours, such as blue, purple, red and pink. Because the dye is almost natural, the flowers can still grow well. The work is always done in September to attract tourists. People joke that in autumn the birds can watch “colour TV” from the sky.
